Industrial Fire Protection
Risk, Reliability, and Safety Engineering has a team of fire protection
professionals dedicated to technical excellence. Our clients are
provided with a variety of industrial fire protection engineering
consulting services, from the development of fire protection philosophies
and code consultation to the design and onsite evaluation of fire
protection systems installation and testing.
We perform these services for both onshore and offshore industrial
projects ranging from gas plants, refineries, chemical and petrochemical
plants, pulp and paper, and manufacturing facilities to offshore
platforms and Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO)
operations.
RRS offers the broadest scope of industrial fire protection engineering
services available anywhere.
AUDITS & SURVEYS - RRS provides audits and surveys for
the evaluation of industrial facilities to identify deficiencies
and limit fire losses involving human life, production, property,
and the environment.
CODES AND STANDARDS EXPERTISE - Providing effective and
efficient fire protection design requires a thorough knowledge of
the codes and standards that govern fire protection. RRS engineers
understand the relevant codes, standards and regulations in industry
and are able to design to the requirements of the authority having
jurisdiction.
COMPUTER MODELING - Breakthroughs in the theoretical and
analytical understanding of fire and fire hazards have been achieved
through the use of computer modeling. Application of these models
represents a cost-effective, performance-based method for designing
safer facilities.
RRS offers a complete range of fire protection engineering analyses
and computer modelling applications designed to provide dynamic
fire protection solutions for all types of projects.
- Fire & Explosion - evaluation of fire and explosion
hazards over a broad spectrum of fuel types and equipment/facility
geometries to assist in determining or evaluating facility design
criteria
- Dispersion Models - assessment of hazard and risk involved
with the spread of flammable or toxic liquid and vapor releases.
CONSULTING SERVICES - RRS offers a complete range of fire prevention/protection
system design services for all types of new and existing industrial
facilities. Our experienced engineers design all types of fire detection
and suppression systems for all kinds of applications:
- Construction Observation - periodic on-site visitation
to verify work progress, address installation issues and inspect
fire protection systems installation for general compliance with
contract documents.
- Drawing Review - analysis of drawings to determine
compliance with provisions of applicable specifications as well
as laws, codes and standards.
- Emergency Preparedness Planning - development
and/or review of emergency response plans for the facilities,
training programs and systems; equipment operations and maintenance
plans.
- Fire Protection Design Criteria - development
and/or review of the fire safety program, which addresses applicable
codes, specific requirements of the project and alternative approaches
to code compliance and design objectives.
- Inspection/Testing - inspection, performance testing
and evaluation of systems, review of final submittals and record
drawings for verification of project completion and acceptance
by authorities having jurisdiction.
- Negotiation - communication with the authority
having jurisdiction to explain, clarify and interpret the design
intent of the project and review the applicable code requirements.
- Specification Development/Cost Estimating - development
of cost-effective, performance-based, multiple supplier specifications
and preparation of cost estimates for recommended systems.
- System Review/Evaluation - review of system drawings
and/or actual installations, evaluation and recommendations for
improvement of fire protection systems including fire alarm, fire
detection, fire suppression, and water supply.
- Water Supply/Surge Analysis - computer analysis
of available water supplies, water distribution systems, and surge
pressures in piping systems to determine system operating pressures
that are within the limitations of new or installed systems.
MANAGEMENT FIRE SAFETY PROGRAMS - preparation of operational
fire plans including emergency procedures, fire protection system
maintenance requirements, fire and emergency plan organization and
employee training.
SYSTEM DESIGN - creative, cost-effective design for fire
alarm systems, automatic sprinklers, specialty fire suppression
systems and water supply systems for new or existing facilities:
- Fire Protection Water Supply Systems - electric
motor and diesel engine driven fire pumps, water storage tanks,
underground water mains and hydrants.
- Automatic Sprinkler Systems - wet pipe, dry pipe,
and preaction.
- Deluge and Water Spray Systems - for equipment
or area protection.
- Water Mist Systems - for enclosed equipment compartments
or protection of computer room sub-flooring.
- Gaseous Extinguishing Systems - carbon dioxide,
Halon and/or Halon replacement agents for computer rooms, telecommunication
facilities, dip tanks and specialized industrial applications.
- Foam Systems - protein and fluoroprotein, AFFF,
FFFP and high expansion type systems for aircraft hangars, flammable
liquid storage tanks/areas and loading racks.
- Fire Detection and Alarm Systems - smoke, heat,
flame and flammable vapor detectors, audible and visual signaling
appliances, fire fighter telephone, annunciator panels, fan status
indication, smoke control and voice communications.
