Human Factors / Ergonomics

Human Factors/ Ergonomics is defined as the systematic process of designing for human use by applying our knowledge of human beings to the equipment they use, the environments they operate in, the tasks they perform and the management systems that guide the safe and efficient operations of process facilities.

Human Factors can be introduced into existing plants by identifying Human Factors issues and training plant staff on the tools to analyze the issues and to develop and implement solutions. For new projects, both large capital projects and small local ones, RRS can develop an approach that considers Human Factors during each phase of the project, from planning to construction and startup.

RRS Engineering provides the following Human Factors/Ergonomics services:

  • Human Factors applications in the design of capital projects
  • Training: RRS has a complete range of Human Factors / Ergonomics training programs including:
    • Human Factors Awareness training for plant personnel with durations from 1 to 3 days
    • Human Factors in the planning, design and execution of projects
    • Office Ergonomics for site contacts, office workers and managers
  • Process control:
    • Control space assessment and design
    • Control operator workload analysis
    • Information assessment and design
    • Screen design guideline development
  • Behavior-based safety program design and implementation
  • Expert witness services
  • Energy expenditure analyses
  • Physical assessments including musculoskeletal and work environment
